About this piece

General's speech to Talbot at the gates of Bordeaux

Summary

The setting is the Hundred Years' War. The English, led by general Talbot are fighting the French, led by Joan of Arc and King Charles. After having conquered the city of Rouen, Talbot marches to Bordeaux. He demands the French General to open the gates and accept King Henry VI as their king or the English army will attack them. In this monologue the French General tells Talbot that the French are strong enough to resist them.
