About this piece

George Deever confronts his sister Ann and her fiance´ Chris Keller

Summary

All My Sons' story centers on one terrible and tragic thing Joe Keller did during WWII. Joe Keller, together with Steve Deever, is the owner of a airplane parts factory that sold faulty cylinder heads to the US Army during the war, causing many deaths. Even if guilty, Joe Keller was exonerated at the end of the trial but his partner went to jail. Now, Ann, Steve Deever's daughter, is about to be married to Chris Keller, Joe Keller's son. Ann used to be engaged to Chris' brother Larry, who has been MIA for several years and considered dead. Ann and Chris both believe that Ann's father is guilty. George, Ann's brother, has just come back from visiting his father in jail and in this scene is confronting his sister and Chris. George, who before wasn't sure about his father's guilt, now believes his dad is innocent. In this monologue George mostly addresses Ann but Chris is also present. He laments the way they have treated their dad after he was sent to jail. They never visited him or sent him a card. He tells her what happened the day they sold those faulty cylinder heads to the Army. Joe Keller never showed up at work, claiming he was sick. Over the phone he told George's dad to cover up the cracks on the cylinders in order to make the sell. He accuses Chris' dad of being a liar and urges his sister not to marry him.
