About this piece
Laura confronts her husband William and asks her if he ever actually loved her
Summary
The film is set in Los Angeles in the early 80s. There are several dramatic stories involving different characters, including a group of young, good looking and rich kids who lead a dissolute life of partying, sex and drugs, their dysfunctional families, an aging and drug addicted British rock star, a voyeuristic doorman, an ex con who kidnaps a kid to sell him to pedophiles for sex. In this scene Laura (Kim Basinger) confronts her husband William (Billy Bob Thornton). They are the parents of one of the kids in the film, Graham (Jon Forster). William and Laura used to be separated. William had a relationship with a newscaster, Cheryl Lane (Winona Rider) and Laura was sleeping with her son's friend, Martin. William moves back in with his wife but things don't go well. When they are at a restaurant Laura spots Cheryl and then sees her husband go to the restroom at the same time that she does. Laura confronts her husband about his relationship with the newscaster, his selfishness and his relationship with their kids. Most of the talking is done by Laura who scolds him for most of the scene.
