Terms of Service

Version 2.0 — effective July 19, 2026

These terms govern your use of SceneFiend. You accept them through the acceptance screen shown when you first sign in (and again after material updates).

Who we are

SceneFiend is built and operated by Vociferous.ai, based in New York, New York. “We,” “us,” and “our” refer to the operator of the SceneFiend service; “you” means the person using the service.

The service

SceneFiend is an AI-assisted tool that helps actors find scenes and monologues for class, rehearsal, and auditions. It provides personalized recommendations with explicit rationale, drawn from a curated catalog of published plays.

Beta status

SceneFiend is currently in beta. Features may change or be discontinued without notice. The service is provided as-is during the beta period; we do not guarantee availability, performance, or fitness for any particular purpose. Recommendation quality is actively improving as the beta develops.

Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use SceneFiend. You confirm this when you create an account and attest to it on the acceptance screen when you first sign in.

Your account

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. One person per account: you may not share your account or create accounts on behalf of other people. You are responsible for activity under your account. Tell us promptly at [email protected] if you believe your account has been compromised.

License to use SceneFiend

We grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use SceneFiend for your own acting work — finding, preparing, and organizing material. This license does not include any right to resell the service, redistribute the catalog, or use the service to build a competing dataset or product.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use SceneFiend for automated scraping, crawling, or bulk data extraction.
  • Attempt to extract, reconstruct, or reverse-engineer the recommendation system, the underlying catalog, or the prompts and system instructions used to generate recommendations.
  • Probe, disrupt, or circumvent security or rate-limiting measures.
  • Use the service to generate, store, or distribute content that violates applicable law, or submit material you do not have the right to submit.
  • Impersonate another person or create false accounts.

Your material

Your actor profile, recommendation requests, notes, feedback, and suggestions are your content. You grant us a limited license to process and store that content to operate the service — generating your recommendations, maintaining your history and saved material, and improving catalog quality from aggregate, de-identified signals. We do not claim ownership of your content and do not use it beyond operating the service, as described in our Privacy Notice. You are responsible for anything sensitive you choose to include in free-text fields.

Intellectual property and performance rights

The plays and works referenced in recommendations are the intellectual property of their authors, estates, and publishers. SceneFiend provides title, author, and character information as a discovery tool. Acquiring scripts, rehearsal materials, and performance rights is your responsibility, including any licensing required for public performance. We are not affiliated with any play publisher. Where SceneFiend provides controlled links to limited, reviewed rehearsal text samples, those samples are not a substitute for buying or licensing the published work.

SceneFiend's platform, interface, recommendation logic, and catalog curation are our intellectual property. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from them without our written consent.

AI and recommendation limitations

Recommendations are generated with AI assistance and can be wrong, incomplete, or a poor fit. Material selection for auditions, class, or rehearsal involves artistic judgment that is yours to exercise — SceneFiend's suggestions are a starting point, not a professional opinion, casting advice, or a guarantee of suitability.

Availability and changes

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service during the beta. We will try to give notice of significant changes but are not obligated to during beta.

Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, engage in abuse, or compromise the security or integrity of the service. You may delete your account from your Profile page (or, if you have contributed reviewer curation notes, request deletion, which an operator completes); deletion permanently erases your account data as described in the Privacy Notice, and you can download an export of your data from the same page first.

Disclaimer of warranties

The service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We make no representations about the accuracy or completeness of any recommendation or catalog entry.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law: (a) neither SceneFiend nor its operator is liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, opportunities, or roles, arising from your use of or inability to use the service; and (b) our total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amounts you paid us for the service in the twelve months before the claim (SceneFiend is currently free) or one hundred US dollars (US $100). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you; nothing here waives rights that cannot be waived under the consumer-protection law of your place of residence.

Indemnity

You will indemnify us against third-party claims arising from your unlawful use of the service or from material you submit that you did not have the right to submit. This indemnity does not apply to claims arising from our own breach of these terms.

Changes to these terms

These terms are versioned. If we make a material change, we bump the version and ask you to accept the new version through the acceptance screen the next time you sign in. Continued use without that acceptance is not treated as agreement to a material change.

Governing law and venue

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in New York County, New York, and both sides consent to that venue — except that if the consumer-protection law of your place of residence gives you a non-waivable right to a different forum, that right is preserved.
