About this piece

You call the guy Snotboogie? Details Season 1, Ep. 1, "The Target" Beginning

Summary

Opening scene of "The Wire". Police detective James McNulty is at the scene of a murder, of a young black kid nicknamed "Snotboogie". He sits on steps with a friend of the victim and interrogates him about Snotboogie's possible murderers. Conversation turns funny as they discuss Snotboogie's nickname and why he might have been killed. Every Friday night he would join an alley crap game, wait til the pot was deep, snatch the money and run. Every Friday night.... Det. McNulty: "I gotta ask you. If every time Snotboogie would grab the money and run away...why'd you even let him in the game?" FRIEND: "Got to. This is American man...."
